Still nothing more than feelings

The new Feel Tank site also has a new call for projects. Everybody should take a look and propose something!

And apparently the new issue of Renaissance Magazine (not scholarly, OK, but I'll take what I can get; I've always had a soft spot for the "faire and reenactment community") has some nice things to say about, ah, somebody's book.

Goatdog left for Chicago today and I will now go drown my sorrows in the library....

She's not supposed to say that out loud, is she?

Katherine Harris: "God is the one who chooses our rulers."

Aside from the fact that this allows her conveniently to divest herself of any responsibility for election 2000, my question is....RULERS?

I guess this is a glimpse into how the ruling class talks amongst themselves--only silly Katie wasn't supposed to let it out. "The separation of church and state is a lie" is not so far from "Democracy is a lie"--the Noble Lie, perhaps?

Skills for Success!

A friend at a university that shall remain nameless passed on the following skills expected not only of staff but also of...faculty?!?

Anyone spotting a faculty member at any university exhibiting any of these skills, please pass the sighting along. I'll keep a tally.

pine tree state

So, I'm in Maine for a couple weeks. Luckily, given all the flight security kerfuffle, I made my flight this morning without too much trouble, no thanks to the guy in the airport shuttle who insisted on paying with a credit card and thus adding 10 minutes to our trip or to the woman in front of me in the security line who waited until she was standing in front of the screening area to realize that maybe she needed to rummage through all her bags for the things she needed to take out, like her laptop, all the while hoarding all of the remaining trays -- you know, the ones that go through the xray machine -- all empty in front of her so that I was stuck waiting. Then one of my bags didn't come in on my flight, but the one after it, so I might as well have missed my flight anyway. A colleague of mine and other random friends of his happened to be on the flight, and his bag was delayed too, so at least there were people to commiserate with who were in the same boat.
It's nice and cool here. We went to the Brunswick "Second Friday Art Walk" this evening and I was especially happy to see the new "Left of Center Artworks."
Next stop, family meeting on Sunday. No comment....

37

So, I figured I should write something for today since it's my birthday. What to say? I celebrated with Goatdog and some friends last night at the new Velvet Lounge, listening to improvisational jazz, and we might end up on public radio, because they had someone there doing a piece on the opening of the new club. This morning I had a good yoga class. Then I had lunch with a colleague, various administrative headaches, a good exhibition meeting with my art/activism group, and a very nice dinner at Lula, which I remember as the Logan Beach Cafe.

I didn't feel too old today, even though I remember Lula as the Logan Beach Cafe. I felt especially young when an older condo association member bossed me around, telling me how to do my job as president of the association. Sigh. Old or young, you can't win.

Vote For Hillary. At Least She's Not A Serial Killer.

The heat has finally abated. And last night, I had a dream in which I showed up to do a minor errand at the home of a distant acquaintance and found that all my female friends were gathered there for some sort of event to which I hadn't been invited.

A few minutes later, we're all standing outside in a loose circle putting our shoes on, and someone says, "so, are we going to endorse this Hillary Clinton event?" and I nearly shouted "I am SO disappointed with Hillary Clinton" and everybody applauded. And I thought, wow, here's a group of women I respect who would rather not have a woman president than have Hillary.

It seems, well, so...like something that would happen in real life. Weird! I think in the same dream I was being pursued by a serial killer.

I never had much in the way of expectations of Hillary Clinton, so why would I be so disappointed?
